NEWS - 31ST AUGUST 2009
A mixed weekend overall for the club, sadly the 1st XI suffered a defeat which may well condemn them to relegation, whilst the 2nds & Sunday team enjoyed good victorys over Melton Mowbray & Leics Mossdale. Meanwhile, middle order power-house Del Turner
continued his run of form with the bat; Del's last 5 innings have been 74, 104*, 49, 58* & 61 as he rapidly approaches 1000 runs for the season for the club. Against Leics Mossdale Del shared a 117 run partnership with club newcomer Misty Jones-Middleton,
who scored a half century to go with a catch and a wicket on debut. The 2nd XI victory over Melton was aided by Dave Tebbutts 4-45 and Jay Mistry (36) who added 95 runs for the sixth wicket with, guess who, Del Turner. | NEWS - 23RD AUGUST 2009
The bright spot in an otherwise bad round of games for the club (two defeats and a losing draw) was the debut century by club veteran Del Turner against Loughborough Outwoods. Del has been the mainstay of the MCCC middle order for years and has punished many bowlers with quick-fire half centuries, but after many attempts, the big one finally came at his home ground. His score of 104 not out was a typically swashbuckling effort with 13 fours and 3 huge sixes (taking his season tally to a not in-considerable 32 maximums).
As if to emphasis his good form, Del followed up with 49 in the Sunday game against Ockbrook XI, once again the side's top scorer. |
NEWS - 20TH AUGUST 2009
I have updated the front page to show averages divided by team. This so thatas we approach the end of the season it allows everybody to see who is in the runnning for the annual batting and bowling awards.
On Tuesday this week the Crusaders u10s team played in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Grace Road. The team put up the usual top notch performance, losing to Newbold Verdon by 10 runs and then beating Medbourne by a massive 77 runs. Following the game the team stayed on to watch Leicestershire lose to Kent in the Day-Night Pro 40 fixture. Pictures will be uploaded later to the Juniors section. |
7TH AUGUST 2009
The British Monsoon Season relented for a few hours to allow MCCC u10s to complete their maiden season in the final Kwik Cricket fixture. A large turnout ensured that Coach Ian Houston was able to field two full sides of eight
players against Loughborough Town and Newtown Linford. The first fixture saw a tense finish with 'Town triumphing over the Crusaders by a single run. The Crusaders 'B' side had a better result with a win over Newtown Linford by
50 Runs. After the matches, the squad posed for a group photo. Copies of this are available by email or print from Team Manager Gary Brown on 07736875796. |
18TH JULY 2009
Big stats and results update this weekend as I finally got my hands on the scorebooks! All figures are now up to date for all teams. In the batting department, Martin Bayliss continues to head the table, but is unlikely to play any further this season. Rozeen Khaleel, the clubs top batsman in 2008, has moved into second place after scoring 88 not out this week. The bowling is tight as ever with Paresh Kangsagara and Del Turner both level on wickets.

17TH JULY 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK 13
Two close games in the league this Saturday. At Croft, MCCC 2nds struggled with the bat to only post 122 all out. Fortunately the bowlers did not disappoint with Monty Vala ripping out the Croft middle order with 6-27 and Sean Greenwell terrorizing the tailenders with 3-3 in 8 deliveries. Irfan Mohammed had an excellent day behind the stumps with three catches and a stumping. Meanwhile, the First XI lost a tight match by only 4 runs; the last three wickets falling in quick succession to leave Rozeen Khaleel 88 not out.

28TH JUNE 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK 10
Mountsorrel Everards Teams complete a double loss to Enderby which will likely impact the 2nd XI's chances of promotion this year. Next week it's Cosby and the clash the division has been waiting for, crunch match is too small a word!!
MCCC Sunday enjoy an exciting last ball tied game against Ibstock. This is the second game at Ibstock in two months and the Sunday sides have put over 1150 runs on the board for only 26 wickets in the combined fixtures. Who would want to bowl on this track?

26TH JUNE 2009 - CRUSADERS u10s
MCCC Crusaders suffered defeat at the hands of Loughborough Carillion in tonight's away fixture. Victory over Barrow was scant compensation for the team's first defeat of the season. Head Coach Ian Houston remarked 'I am gutted over this setback to my master plan for total domination of the County u10s scene. I will of course be tendering my resignation immediately'. Team Manager Gary Brown is reported to be regretting his comments on this website in the 25th June news report, whilst Assistant Coach Danny Hill has announced he is leaving the organisation following an offer to coach the Australian touring team. Clearly a 5-0 England Ashes victory is now on the cards. |

13TH JUNE 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK EIGHT
This week saw Mountsorrel and Sileby clash in both u10s Kwik Cricket and Everards Leagure fixtures. MCCC came out on top in all three games with their juniors triumphing over plucky Sileby town A & B in both their fixtures. Meanwhile, the 1st XI completed a surprise victory over Sileby 2 away from home, Dave Tebbutt taking a match winning 6-55 for Mountsorrel. At home, the 2nd XI drew with Melton Mowbray 2 in a match that saw MCCC powering out of sight scoring 272-4 in their 45 overs. Martin Bayliss was top score with 125 whilst Rod Wood added 60. Melton dug in for the draw and only lost 5 wickets on a mostly lifeless track. |
31ST MAY 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK SIX
The best weather of the year has seen success in all 5 club fixtures. On Friday the u10s won both of their Kwik Cricket matches, Saturday saw the first win of 2009 for the 1st XI coupled with another easy win for the 2nds.
The weekend was capped off on the Sunday with a win against Cropston. Notable heroes of the weekend included Paresh Kangsagara with 7-34 for the 2nds against Billesdon, Rod Wood and Martin Bayliss who saw the team home with the bat, Mohideen Asannar with runs against Ilston Abbey for the 1st XI and a fine team performance from the Sunday XI with contributions all down the order. |
29TH MAY 2009 - u10s FIXTURES
On a perfect late Spring evening, the Memorial Playing Fields hosted Barrow, Newtown Linford and Loughborough Town Under 10s for the third round of Kwik Cricket fixtures. Conditions were superb and the venue saw a crowd as big as any
in recent memory. Some great cricket was played by over 40 enthusiastic children, whilst the parents soaked up the atmosphere in the bar or ate picnic teas on the outfield. Mountsorrel were successful in both their games, Newtown Linford and Loughborough
enjoyed one win each. RESULTS & PHOTOS |
23RD MAY 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK 5
Back to winning ways for the Second XI who defeated Grace Dieu Park 2nds by over 100 runs. Seb Maley (4-14) and Danny Hill (4-45) shared most of the wickets bowling fast and straight. With the bat it was Martin Bayliss who continued his strong start to the season making his second score over 70 in 4 innings, other solid contributions
came from Rod Wood, Rob Wing & Del Turner completing a genuine all round team effort.
The 1st XI faced Market Bosworth at home and fought out another gritty draw, Bosworth's D.Shepherd made the most of his chances to score 113. |
16TH MAY 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK 4
A turnaround for the 2nd XI who were heavily beaten by Shepshed Messengers at a wet and windy Memorial Fields. The Shepshed innings was punctuated by showers and the covers were used several times. A target of 161 in 38 overs seemed achievable until, at 49 for 2, the Mountsorrel middle and lower order self-destructed. Eight batsmen were sent back for just 22 runs including six ducks, with Shepshed's Trent and Cook sharing all 10 wickets between them. |
9TH MAY 2009 - LEAGUE WEEK 3
Another seemingly easy win for the 2nd XI against Loughborough Greenfields. However it was not without an initial wobble with the first 3 batsmen back in the hutch for only 13. When Danny Hill and Del Turner came together several overs later they
proceeded to take the match by the scruff with a partnership of violent hitting. Del was dismissed for 81 including 4 sixes whilst Danny took the team to the finish with 60*, a career best. Greenfields were then blown away for 140 with Big Jay Navsaria taking 6-46.
Meanwhile a dogged performance by the 1st XI gained them a losing draw against Leicester Banks. |
2ND MAY 2009
The second week of Everards Leagure fixtures saw a repeat performance from both Mountsorrel teams. The First XI lost to Bardon Hill whilst the Second XI had another easy victory, this time by 138 runs, against Croft 2nds. The Mountsorrel innings saw solid contributions from the top 8 batsmen with the highlight being another well paced 59 from Rod Wood. The bowlers played their part in bowling Croft out for 110, with Paresh Kangsagara taking a season best 6-24, whilst in the field, Rob Wing pouched 3 catches. |
1ST MAY 2009
Mountsorrel Crusaders first u10s Kwik Cricket fixture was a highly successful one. The team defeated Barrow u10s by 51 runs at Ratby Town. Crusaders only played one game instead of the scheduled double-header due to the failure of Loughborough Carillion to send a team to the event.

The first round of league fixtures saw defeat to Countesthorpe for the MCCC 1st XI by 6 wickets. The 2nd XI however enjoyed an easy win over Rothley Park 2nds. The team chased down the 142 required for victory for the loss
of only 4 wickets, largely due to a blistering 64 not out from 'Masta Blasta' Del Turner, who hit 5 fours and 6 sixes in all. Del's first 32 runs all came in boundaries off only 9 balls faced and shell shocked Rothley never recovered. | 24TH APRIL 2009
The final pre-season practice session passed by in fine weather with a good attendance of 17 boys and girls.
Twelve talented young people have been chosen and the Crusaders march on Ratby next friday in the first match of their 2009 campaign. Free practice sessions for all are being held every other Friday through the season; see the Juniors page for more details.

A fine spring day allowed the first fixture of the season to take place in bright sunshine. Mountsorrel Castle beat Braunstone CC by 2 wickets in the last over (see the fixtures page for scorecards). Notable performances were a miserly analysis by new player Sean McNeice of 8-7-1-1
and a fine innings of 25* by Guy Power to steer the side home with 4 balls to spare. For Braunstone, S Suffolk top scored with 51* and also took 2-44 with the ball. | 17TH APRIL 2009
The second Kwik Cricket evening of 2009 was a huge success. The weather gifted a warm Spring Friday evening and 20 boys and girls turned out to practice their skills. With the first matches due in two weeks time, several young stars of the future are making their bid for a spot in the team.

The first Kwik Cricket evening of 2009 passed off successfully. Under angry skies, 16 boys and girls practiced the skills they would need for the coming season. There were also two practice matches during which some impressive early season form was shown. The other teams in the Under 10s league should not be complacent, Mountsorrel Crusaders are up for the challenge.
| 3RD MARCH 2009
The first Sunday in March saw a lovely late winter afternoon and the club felt that there was no time like the present to start work on the pitch preparation. Here we see Club Chairman Guy Power passing on skills honed over many seasons at the club. First: how to start the mower...
Later on Guy felt confident enough to take on the club's Senior Pro, Keith 'Hot Rod' Houghton in a race over 22 yards...
Finally we saw the green shoots of a new Spring as the sun set lazily upon the Memorial Playing Fields...
23RD DECEMBER 2008
